At St Catherine’s Hospice, we support people across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble who are living with life-shortening conditions such as cancer, heart failure, respiratory disease and motor neurone disease. Our mission is simple: to help people enjoy the best possible quality of life, right through to the end of life.

We care not only for patients but also for their families, offering support both at the hospice and in the comfort of their own homes. Our team is here to help people achieve what truly matters to them, ensuring they live with dignity, independence and choice in the time they have.

Our care and support

We provide specialist palliative and end of life care tailored to each individual’s needs and wishes. Our care extends beyond medical treatment, focusing on comfort, dignity and emotional wellbeing for patients and their loved ones.

Our services include:

  • In-patient care at the hospice providing a calm and supportive environment.
  • Specialist care at home helping people remain where they feel most comfortable.
  • Bereavement support offering counselling and opportunities for loved ones to reflect and remember together.
  • Community partnerships working with local organisations, businesses and charities to ensure the best possible care and support.

Our Vision and Values

Our vision is to help local people facing life-shortening conditions live in comfort, with dignity and choice. We are committed to both the small details and the bigger challenges, ensuring care is personalised to every individual and family.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do:

  • Caring placing compassion and kindness at the centre of our work.
  • Compassionate supporting patients and families with empathy and respect.
  • Committed dedicating ourselves fully to improving quality of life, to the very end of life.

Why choose St Catherine’s Hospice

We understand that hospital stays can be stressful and unnecessary for many living with life-shortening conditions. That is why we offer the right support to help people remain at home if that is their wish, or to stay at our in-patient unit when extra care is needed.

Our support does not end when someone has died. We continue to walk alongside families through bereavement, offering comfort and connection at some of the most difficult times.

At St Catherine’s Hospice, we are here for our patients, for their families, and for our community.

Q Who do you support?

We care for people across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble affected by conditions such as cancer, heart failure, respiratory disease and motor neurone disease.

Q Do you only provide medical care?

No. Our care includes emotional, spiritual and social support, as well as expert pain management and symptom control. We are here to support the whole person, not just the illness.

Q Do you support families as well as patients?

Yes. We provide emotional and practical support for families, including bereavement counselling and remembrance services.

Q Is your care available to everyone?

Absolutely. Our services are unconditional and available regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, religion or cultural belief.

Q What makes St Catherine’s Hospice different from other care providers?

We offer highly personalised palliative and end of life care, focusing on what matters most to each individual and their family. Our commitment is to provide comfort, dignity and choice in every aspect of care.

Q Can patients stay at home instead of coming into the hospice?

Yes. Many people prefer to remain at home, and our specialist community team provides expert care and support to make that possible.

Q Can I donate items to St Catherine’s Hospice charity shops?

Yes. Our shops rely on donations of good quality clothing, furniture, books, and homeware. Every item sold helps raise vital funds to support our specialist care.

Q Where can I find St Catherine’s Hospice charity shops?

We have a number of shops across the local area, making it easy to donate and shop with us. You can find your nearest location on our website or by contacting the hospice team.
