At Paws ‘n’ Claws Animal Hotel, we are proud to provide a comprehensive range of high-quality pet care services including luxury dog and cat boarding, expert grooming, and professional residential dog training. Located conveniently on the A581 between Croston and the A59 at Rufford, our facilities are easily accessible from Preston, Chorley, Leyland, Wigan, Southport, Ormskirk and Liverpool.
Established by Les and Denise Forshaw—both graduates of Liverpool University—our family-run business began with a vision to deliver the very best in animal care and comfort. With bespoke kennels and cattery facilities purpose-built in 1990, Paws ‘n’ Claws quickly earned a reputation as one of the North West’s leading animal hotels. Today, we remain committed to continuously improving the high standards we set, ensuring your pets receive the exceptional care they deserve.
We offer spacious, centrally heated and fully insulated kennels designed to keep your dogs warm, safe and happy throughout their stay. Each kennel includes a weatherproof covered run, with 24-hour heating available upon request. We accommodate dogs of all breeds and sizes, and have extra-large kennels suitable for families of dogs.
For added comfort, we encourage you to bring your pet’s favourite bedding, toys, jackets or leads. All belongings are laundered using our professional-grade washing and drying equipment to maintain cleanliness. We also provide optional lead walks and grooming services during their stay, ensuring your dog returns home clean, refreshed and well cared for.
Our luxury cat chalets are warm, inviting and filled with natural light. Each chalet includes a raised, centrally heated sleeping area and a separate space for feeding and exercise, offering your cat a peaceful and engaging environment. From their elevated perch, cats can enjoy a view of the outdoors.
Extra-large chalets are available for families of cats, and owners are welcome to bring scratching posts, toys, or familiar bedding to make their cat feel at home. To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend visiting us with your cat before their first stay. Viewings are available daily from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
Our grooming salon is open seven days a week and fully equipped with a bathing suite, drying area and a spacious styling zone. Regular grooming helps maintain your pet’s skin and coat, and improves their comfort and wellbeing. Our professional groomers work with most breeds of dogs and provide tailored grooming sessions to suit your pet’s needs.
If your dog is staying with us, why not book a grooming appointment for their final day? They’ll return home looking clean, feeling great and smelling fresh.
Keep your dog mentally stimulated while you’re away by enrolling them in our residential training programme. Our expert trainers provide bespoke obedience training courses lasting one, two or three weeks depending on your dog’s individual needs. We begin with a detailed questionnaire to assess your dog’s behaviour and training goals, then create a customised plan that may include sit, stay, recall, and lead walking.
Whether your dog pulls on the lead or struggles with basic commands, our residential courses offer a positive, structured approach that leads to long-lasting behavioural improvements. A trained dog is a happy dog—and a happier owner!
To protect the health of all animals in our care, all pets must be fully vaccinated. Please bring your pet’s up-to-date vaccination record with evidence of a booster within the last 12 months. Dogs must also be vaccinated against kennel cough using Bronchi-shield or Nobivac KC.
Every pet is unique, and understanding their temperament allows us to provide the best care possible. Please let us know if your pet is timid, excitable, nervous, or has shown signs of aggression. This information helps us tailor their experience and ensure a safe and happy environment for all animals.
We take your pet’s health seriously. Inform us of any medical conditions and provide clear written instructions for administering medication, including dosage and frequency. Any visible symptoms or ongoing conditions must be disclosed upon arrival so we can monitor them accordingly.
We stock a wide selection of pet foods, but you are welcome to bring your own if your pet requires a specific diet. Food must be clearly labelled and, if necessary, pre-portioned and frozen. We feed pets in line with their usual routine—morning, midday, or evening—and ensure fresh water is available at all times.
Should your pet be collected just after feeding, please ensure access to water upon returning home, especially if fed a dry diet. Let us know if your pet suffers from bloat or other dietary sensitivities so we can take appropriate precautions.
Familiar bedding and toys can provide comfort during your pet’s stay. All items must be clearly labelled. While we do our best to care for your belongings, please avoid sending items of high sentimental or monetary value as we cannot guarantee their return.
We invite you to come and view our facilities any day between 11:00am and 3:00pm. Our friendly, knowledgeable team is always on hand to answer questions and help you feel confident in your decision. In fact, approximately 95% of pet owners who visit Paws ‘n’ Claws choose us for their boarding and care needs.
With our passion for animal welfare, years of experience and commitment to excellence, we are confident that your pet will enjoy a comfortable, enriching and safe stay with us.
